Introduction
In the world of gypsy jazz original Selmer guitar are probably the most sought after.
Between 1933 and 1953 the Selmer company build about 900 of these guitars. The history of the Selmer guitars is written down by François Charle in his book ‘The story of Selmer Maccaferri guitars’. The model jazz with his typical contours and the small sound hole was made famous by the legendary gypsy Django Reinhardt (foto Django). With his band the Hot club the France (foto Hcdf) he introduced a new sound and a new way of playing the guitar. Django owned Selmer number 503. Nobody knows exactly how many Selmers are still around and which ones are still in good shape regarding construction, playability and tone. The chances of buying one in original condition are getting slimmer as time goes by.

A world famous guitar since it is the sister guitar of Django Reinhardt his Selmer with number 503. Stochelo Rosenberg bought this guitar in April 1993 and owned and played by him. Stochelo, a born Sinti gypsy, is regarded as the best gypsy jazz player in the world. He plays his Selmer, as lead guitarist in his band the Rosenberg trio. The guitar is heared on many CD’s, DVD’s and film material over these years. Stochelo and his guitar played famous concert halls all over the world together with many great musicians like Stéphane Grappelli. You also can find the guitar in the book ‘The story of Selmer Maccaferri guitars’on page 136 and 137 and how he found this special guitar in the book ‘Stochelo Rosenberg’ page 85.
Some people say that even Django Reinhardt himself played this guitar. Unfortunately there is no direct evidence of that.
Some years ago famous blues guitarist and collector of guitars Eric Clapton was interested in buying this special Selmer. The deal was almost done when Stochelo decided to keep the guitar. Now it’s for sale again !
Selmer 504 is still in outstanding condition. All parts are original. There are no hidden defects. The playability and tone of this guitar is unique. When purchasing this guitar you will not only buy a part of the Selmer factory history but also a guitar that influenced gypsy jazz since Django Reinhardt passed away. A true collectors items
